A Galaxy Nexus user and fan has reportedly designed a new Nexus D smartphone while watching the Olympics. It seems his creative ideas took off from where Samsung had left.

According to Betanews, the patent-holding mechanical engineer and BetaNews reader, Dorian Lust, has revealed the prototype for the next Galaxy Nexus smartphone, hinting at how it may look and feel.
The new Nexus D smartphone design appears to boast a few standout features including the thin light pipes constructed down the aisle on both the side panels, besides other attractive features such as fingerprint scanner and IR blaster for universal remote functionality. The coloured LEDs on the light pipes serve as calling/messaging notifications or as vanity lights for front-facing camera with the added functionality of illuminating the user's face while taking snapshots.

The back cover is delicately curved to fit the smartphone's body dimensions, besides adding a sense of appeal to its design aesthetics. The well-rounded body dimensions aptly fit into the palms, enhancing the grip while holding the phone. The back cover also houses a kickstand to provide the user a landscape view, which is ideal for watching videos and slideshows on the phone when your hands are busy.
The Galaxy Nexus prototype is tipped at 1.8:1 with its height-to-width ratio, while the iPhone measures 1.95:1. The intended prototype is said to incorporate certain revolutionary features such as a remote laser pointing device in slideshows, besides adding an integrated radar detection to detect and geolocate speed traps in navigation mode.

In related news, another post on Concept Phones by author Thrystan states: "After so many Nokia and Apple concepts, here's a device focused on the Google experience. This is the Next Galaxy Nexus, or maybe you want to dub it Galaxy Nexus 2. I supposed it's made by Samsung, since the designer didn't mention that aspect, although some elements of its design make me think about Motorola."
The concept phone for the next Galaxy Nexus resembles the recently released Motorola handsets with the characteristic angular lines on the front panel. In addition to the good looks, the phone features a host of power-packed features.

It sports a five-inch edge-to-edge display that is finished with Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The original Galaxy Nexus comes equipped with 16 GB of storage capacity and this concept model equips a minimum of 32 GB of onboard storage. It adds 8 GB of RAM and features connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0 with MHL. This handset also features USB on-the-go, as well as HSDPA 42 Mbps connectivity. As far as camera is concerned, this model sports a 12 MP primary camera with LED flash, 1080p video recording at 30 fps is also available besides supporting advanced features such as autofocus, LED flash and simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, image stabilization and face and smile detection.

The device flaunts a 2 MP front-facing camera with 720p video capture at 30 fps during video calling. A quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core 2 GHz processor, with GPU ULP GeForce is also on the cards.
