The Chinese Patent Office has more holes than a cheese grater, if you have corporate secrets that you don’t want leaked then its probably best you don’t send off for a patent in a hurry. This time around the guys from Great Wall sent off their new C70 mid size sedan only to find it on the internet a few days later. Can you believe that some media outlets actually have teams sitting on the patent offices filing cabinet waiting for cars to come in? You betcha.
The C70 will be a Honda Accord sized vehicle to take on the likes of the Geely Emgrand EC7 and 8 as well as BYD’s G6 when it hits the market in the second half of 2012. The C70 comes on the back of the popular C30 and C50 models that have already become very popular in China over the past few months. The C70 carries Great Wall’s own self developed 1.5T engine, and will soon be the recipient of a 6 speed gearbox, the C50 is naturally aspirated but using a CVT gearbox. The C70 will be equipped with GWM’s new self developed 2.0T according to information leaked to the internet and will be paired with a six speed gearbox.
